NP VPN

This is a project that I started in late 2014. I experienced difficulties with playing online multiplayer games and attempts to SSH to my servers whilst I was in campus.

Back when I was a Ngee Ann Polytechnic student, I spent a lot of time in school and hence, there was a need to overcome this issue. I wasn’t the only one experience this issue as it was a campus wide network firewall. So I decided to start this NP VPN project where I ran a VPN service that only allow IP addresses to connect from the NP network.

The main purpose of this was to allow other people and myself to play multiplayer games or do other stuff whilst in the Ngee Ann Poly campus. This service is provided for free, without advertisements and does not spy on the network either; ensuring privacy for the fellow students. Yes, it does cost me some money every month to run this but I think the societal benefits outweighs the cons.

Till date, the SoftEther VPN server is still up and running. I’m also still experiencing inbound traffic from the school and hence, I’ve not shut it down yet. Perhaps I’ll run it till there isn’t much traffic coming from the school.
